WXXV: Rep. Mike Ezell discusses committee assignments

Now that we know Congressman Mike Ezell has been appointed to the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and Homeland Security, we wanted to talk with him about what that could mean for South Mississippi.

Ezell says for transportation, the key focus is updating shoulders on roads and funding the improvement of infrastructure. He is also focusing on the renewal of the Amtrak system to help with public transportation and bring in tourism to the Coast.

The Gulf Coast Seafood Industry is also on his radar following last week’s ruling in the Bonnet Carre Spillway case.

Congressman Ezell has an interest in the improvement of FEMA by analyzing flood insurance and flood maps, especially for Jackson County.

As for homeland security, Ezell believes his time as Jackson County sheriff will help him in his appointment to that committee.

Getting a grasp on the crime traveling via I-10 from the Southern border is a top priority. “Well, I’ll tell you what, it is very exciting. I am overwhelmed with gratitude to the people of Mississippi that have sent me here. My days have been 12- or 14-hour days, but it has been a joy to serve. Finding like-minded people that feel the same way that I do. That love our country, love our state, want better for our children and grandchildren. It’s very exciting to be a part of this history and I can assure you I will work hard every day to make life better for the folks back home and around the country.”

Ezell will be attending his first committee meeting tonight, where he will be able to present these ideas to other committee members.
