Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Advances Ezell Priorities

The Transporation and Infrastructure Committee passed a number of bipartisan bills to strengthening critical infrastructure, hold fraudulent actors in the transportation sector accountable 

Today, the House Transporation and Infrastructure Committee concluded a full committee markup where members voted to pass a number of bipartisan bills, including legislation led by Congressman Ezell, to strengthen critical infrastructure, hold fraudulent actors in the transportation sector accountable, to make the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) work efficiently, and more. Congressman Ezell released the following statement at the conclusion of today's markup: 

"As a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I’m proud that we’ve worked together to pass several bipartisan bills that will truly make a difference in the lives of Americans," Ezell said. "These measures are designed to strengthen our critical infrastructure, hold fraudulent actors in the transportation sector accountable, and shore up the security of all Federal buildings and facilities. I'm proud to have helped lead these efforts through the Committee, and I look forward to ensuring that they cross the finish line for South Mississippians. These pieces of legislation reflect our shared commitment to delivering real, lasting solutions that improve safety, efficiency, and reliability for all Americans."

BACKGROUND

The Transporation and Infrastructure Committee voted to send a number of bills to the House Floor for further consideration, including: 

  • H.R. 8505, the Household Good Shipping Consumer Protection Act, (sponsored by Congresswoman Norton (DC-At-Large), co-led by Congressman Ezell (MS-04)), which would clarify that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has the tools to protect consumers from fraud perpetrated by residential moving companies in the interstate transportation of household goods.
  • H.R. 8530, the Improving Federal Building Security Act of 2024, (sponsored by Congressman Ezell (MS-04), which would improve the security of Federal buildings by ensuring Federal agencies take into consideration recommendations made by the Federal Protective Service (FPS) on actions needed to better secure their buildings and facilities.
