Ezell Secures FEMA Funding for Repairs to Gulfport’s Ken Combs Pier, Urges Continued Action on Outstanding Recovery Projects

Washington, September 19, 2025 | Claire Hurley (202-225-5772)

Congressman Mike Ezell (MS-04) announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded $1,177,927.53 in federal funding to the City of Gulfport for permanent repairs to the Ken Combs Pier, which was severely damaged during Hurricane Zeta in 2020.

"This is a major win for Gulfport and for our coastal community," Ezell said. "Ken Combs Pier is more than just a structure — it’s a community landmark and an economic driver. I’m proud to support efforts that bring federal resources home to help us rebuild stronger and smarter in the aftermath of the storm. While we’re grateful for this long-awaited funding and want to thank the new Region 4 FEMA Administrator for his efforts in securing this project funding, there are still far too many projects stuck in limbo. Families, small businesses, and local governments are depending on this money to rebuild. My office is continuing to push FEMA to move faster and get our communities the support they deserve to restore and strengthen the places we all call home."

“We are incredibly grateful to Congressman Ezell for his persistent advocacy in securing this critical funding for the Ken Combs Pier," said Mayor Hugh D. Keating. "This pier is vital to our community, serving both our commercial fishing industry and providing recreational opportunities for families. The damage from Hurricane Zeta has impacted our waterfront for far too long, and this FEMA funding will allow us to not only repair but enhance this important community asset. Thanks to our federal delegation's persistence, we look forward to proceeding with these repairs and restoring this landmark for current and future generations of Gulfport residents."

While this announcement marks a significant step forward, many other communities across South Mississippi are still waiting on FEMA to make decisions on pending disaster recovery projects. Ezell's office is continuing to push FEMA to finalize and award funds for multiple communities across Mississippi's Fourth Congressional District.
