Congressman Mike Ezell Cosponsors Legislation to Keep Wokeness Out of Retirement Accounts

Washington, DC, February 28, 2023 | Josh Riggs ((202) 226-0454)

Today, the House will vote on H.J. Res. 30, which was introduced by Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) and cosponsored by Congressman Mike Ezell.

T

The legislation would nullify a recent Department of Labor rule, which encouraged the managers of 401(k)s and pensions to consider companies' positions on issues like climate change and social justice rather than maximizing return on investments.

"I'm proud to cosponsor this legislation with Congressman Barr," said Congressman Ezell. "Wokeness must be kept far away from our retirement accounts."

H.J. Res. 30 also increases transparency and monitoring requirements about investment managers' use of proxy votes on behalf of investors.

"This is common-sense legislation," said Congressman Ezell. "The American people should be able to trust that their retirement funds are being invested wisely to prepare for their futures, not to advance a political agenda."
