The Homeland Security committee has investigated the crisis at the southern border at length. As a committee and as individuals, we've taken visits to towns all across the nearly 2,000 miles of border. On and off the record, we've heard from border and immigration experts, senior Border Patrol and DHS officials, law enforcement officers, migrants, prosecutors, and parents of border crisis victims.

All of our findings point in the same direction: Secretary Mayorkas's refusal to comply with the law is directly responsible for this crisis, and he has clearly breached the public trust. He must be held accountable.

Most Wednesday mornings, I join my friends Michael Pol and Ted Tibbett on Pine Belt Daybreak to talk about how I'm fighting for South Mississippi in Washington.

This week, my friend from Mississippi's 3rd District, Congressman Michael Guest, joined us as well to talk about his work on the case for impeaching Mayorkas.

A former District Attorney, Congressman Guest serves as the Vice-Chair of the Homeland Security Committee and has been a key part of the Mayorkas investigations and impeachment.

Congressman Guest and I aren't the only Republicans on the Homeland Security Committee with Mississippi roots. Our Chairman, Congressman Mark Green (TN-07), a combat veteran and ER doctor, grew up in Monticello.

All three of us had different careers, but our experiences gave us many of the same core values. That's a big reason why each of us are so infuriated by the way Secretary Mayorkas has failed this nation.

He's made it impossible for Border Patrol agents to do their jobs effectively and enforce the law, and he's repeatedly lied to Congress and to the American people about the state of our border.

The reality is that our border is not secure—and it's never been secure under Secretary Mayorkas's so-called leadership. Since he swore an oath to "well and faithfully discharge the duties of [his] office," we've set countless records for migrant crossings and encounters. In response, he's left law enforcement out to dry and tacitly encouraged illegal immigration.

Cartels are running rampant, Americans and migrants alike are dying horrible deaths, and terrorists are freely entering our country. It has to stop, and we must start by impeaching and removing Secretary Mayorkas.

As vice-chair of the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation subcommittee, I've worked with my colleagues from both sides of the aisle to support economic growth, especially through modernization of our port and harbor infrastructure.

I worked with Congressman Troy Carter (LA-02) to introduce a bill promoting private investment in cargo port equipment and infrastructure and with Congressman John Garamendi (CA-08) on a bill that would help speed up supply chains at our ports during emergencies and natural disasters.

I also joined Congressman Jake Auchincloss (MA-04) in asking the Federal Maritime Commission to give port authorities, marine terminal operators, and other stakeholders a voice on key issues.

While I disagree with all three of them on plenty of big issues, I'm grateful to have them as partners on these common-sense efforts that will benefit our state and South Mississippi in particular.

Through innovation and modernization at our ports, we're able to create jobs and strengthen supply chains across Mississippi and across the nation. I'm proud to play a small part in making that happen.
