Representative Mike Ezell

Dear [salutation],

After spending last week in the district, I made a brief stop in Orlando for the House Republican Conference Retreat before returning to Washington.

Here are some highlights from my week:

Building Pathways to Success

On Wednesday, I met with the leadership of Jones College to talk about how Mississippi's community and junior colleges create pathways to success for students of all interests and backgrounds across the state.

When I meet with business leaders across South Mississippi, they often highlight our community college system and the role it plays in workforce development.

Our district is home to three fantastic community and junior colleges (Jones College, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, and Pearl River Community College), and I'm proud to support them in Congress.

Strengthening Cybersecurity

On Thursday, I was honored to sit on the first hearing of the Committee on Homeland Security's subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection.

The subcommittee oversees the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), an agency that operates under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. CISA is relatively new—it was created in 2018 during the Trump administration—but it plays a very important role in protecting our infrastructure from cyberattacks.

During the hearing, I asked cybersecurity experts about how CISA works with local law enforcement to protect us from malicious cyberattacks. You can watch my questioning here.

Protecting Parents' Rights

We finished off the week by passing H.R. 5, the Parents Bill of Rights Act. I was proud to cosponsor this legislation, which was led by Rep. Julia Letlow (LA-05).

Over the last several years, we've seen a disturbing shift in our education system. Millions of Americans have been told the lie that administrators and Washington bureaucrats know what's best for our kids.

Instead of stopping this craziness, the Biden administration has encouraged it, even labeling parents as domestic terrorists for asking questions at school board meetings.

Thankfully, those problems aren't universal. In Mississippi, we have wonderful teachers (like my daughter) who work with parents to ensure our kids are getting the best education possible. Those principles should be the standard for every student in every school, which is why I'm proud to support the Parents Bill of Rights.

The legislation protects parents' right to know and read what's being taught in their kid's schools, protects the privacy of children, and ensures that bureaucrats can't ignore parent's voices.

I'll always stand for putting our families first in education.

Next week, I'll be in Washington working to pass H.R. 1, House Republicans' package to reopen American energy production and reform outdated permitting processes. If you need help with a federal agency or have questions about the legislation we're working on, please call one of the offices listed below or contact us on our website at ezell.house.gov.

Don't forget to connect with my office on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to get more frequent updates, and please continue encouraging your friends and family to sign up to receive this newsletter.

It is always an honor to represent you in  in Congress.
