Representative Mike Ezell

Dear [salutation],

By now, you've probably seen where President Biden's Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) has created a new rule that would treat pistols with stabilizing braces as short-barreled rifles.

If you're not familiar, here's what one of these so-called "rifles" looks like (this picture comes from the ATF's website):

ATF Pistol Brace Diagram

You don't have to be a former competition shooter like me to see that the gun in the picture above isn't a rifle. Even President Obama's ATF agreed.

Many people have owned these braces for more than a decade without having to register them as short-barreled rifles. But under President Biden, common sense has been thrown out the window.

Now, otherwise lawful gun owners could face THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS in fines and UP TO TEN YEARS IN JAIL if they don't register or destroy their pistols with stabilizing braces.

Many of the people who would be affected are disabled veterans who rely on pistol braces to exercise their Second Amendment rights. They served our country with dignity and honor. I won't stand by and let the government turn them and countless other law-abiding citizens into felons.

That's why I'm a proud cosponsor of H.J. Res. 44, legislation that would prevent the ATF from enforcing the pistol brace rule.

Do you agree that Congress should overturn this ridiculous rule? Please take a moment to fill out the survey below:

Should Congress overturn the ATF's unconstitutional pistol brace rule?

YES, Congress should overturn the ATF's rule

NO, Congress should not overturn the ATF's rule

When my colleagues and I swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution, we promised to defend the entire Constitution—from the preamble to the 27th Amendment and everything in between.

Unfortunately, some radicals seem to have forgotten what that oath meant. They're trying to use the horrific actions of a few criminals to strip away the constitutional rights of millions of Americans.

They argue we must choose between public safety and personal rights. I reject their false choice.

I spent my entire career in law enforcement—more than forty years—working to keep our communities safe. With all of my experience, one thing is crystal clear: more unconstitutional gun laws and regulations won't make our communities safer.

In Congress, I'm pursuing real solutions to public safety. I'm working to pass bills that will support law enforcement officers and tackle illegal drugs, which are a major driver of both violent crime and our nation's mental health crisis.

We can—and we must—keep our communities safe WITHOUT taking away the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans.

It's an honor to serve as your United States Congressman. If there is anything we can do for you or your family, please contact one of my offices or visit my website at ezell.house.gov.

God bless,
