Representative Mike Ezell

Dear [salutation],

We had another busy week in Washington. We voted to continue the ongoing impeachment inquiry into President Biden, and I spoke to the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability about a major issue facing Poplarville and Pearl River County.

Here's what's been going on:

Impeachment Inquiry Update

In September, the House officially opened an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. At the time, we had already seen significant evidence of corruption involving the president's family members and close associates.

Since then, House investigators have uncovered even more. We've found direct payments to Joe Biden — even some that appear to come from Chinese Communist Party-linked sources.

Investigators need access to every tool possible in order to overcome the repeated attempts by President Biden, his family members, and his associates to delay proceedings and dodge accountability. The most ridiculous example of this is Hunter Biden's actions on Wednesday.

Hunter was subpoenaed to testify in front of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. But instead of fulfilling his legal obligation and complying, Hunter chose to give a prepared speech in front of the Capitol and then drive away before anyone asked hard questions.

He's used to playing by different rules than everyone else because of his last name, but that's not going to last much longer.

Every House Republican voted to continue the inquiry, and we won't slow down in our pursuit of justice.

We're going to continue to ask why the stories keep changing — first from Joe Biden never discussing Hunter's overseas business dealings to Joe Biden participating in MORE THAN 20 conference calls with Hunter's foreign business partners and now to Hunter saying that his father wasn't "financially involved" (a big enough change for The New York Times to edit the quote).

The American people must know the truth, and the president and his associates must be held accountable for any and all crimes committed.

Showing Up for South Mississippi

I had the chance to testify in front of Chairman James Comer (KY-01), Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (MD-08), and the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability about the Postal Service's inaction and unresponsiveness in dealing with the Poplarville Post Office.

For more than 700 days, the residents of Poplarville have been without a permanent post office. The roof of their old building collapsed in January of 2022 — nearly two years ago.

Since then, the USPS has set up temporary vans similar to ice cream trucks outside to handle the mail. The trucks are not well-prepared for the heat of South Mississippi summers, and earlier this week they lost heat on a day it was 31° outside. Senior citizens have fallen trying to get to and from the mail, and several workers have quit because of the extreme conditions.

You can watch my testimony here:

Unfortunately, the Postal Service refuses to provide information to the City of Poplarville about this process or when it might be finished.

They're attempting to ignore my office too. I have requested a briefing on the situation, sought a meeting with the Vice President of Facilities, and consistently asked for updates, but they refuse to grant our meeting requests.

I've asked the Committee on Oversight, which has jurisdiction over the Postal Service, to help me address this issue, and I look forward to working with members from that committee to pursue solutions and accountability.

The residents of Poplarville deserve better than this, and we won't stop until they're taken care of.

Bill of Rights Day

Today marks 231 years since the Bill of Rights, the first 10 amendments to our Constitution, was ratified. That includes the 2nd Amendment, which protects all others.

When my colleagues and I took office, we swore an oath to support and defend the entire Constitution — from the preamble to the 27th Amendment and everything in between.

But some radicals have forgotten what that oath meant. They no longer believe in protecting the rights our founding fathers outlined in the 2nd Amendment.

I want to know if South Mississippians feel the same way. If you haven't already, please take a moment to fill out the survey below:

Do you still believe in the 2nd Amendment?

Since President Biden took office, he and his allies in Congress have attacked the 2nd Amendment through an unconstitutional pistol brace rule, an attempted assault weapons ban, and a de-facto gun owner registry.

I spent my entire career in law enforcement — more than forty years — working to protect South Mississippi, and I know that unconstitutional gun laws and regulations won't make our communities safer. That's why I'm helping lead several key pieces of pro-gun legislation to overturn unfair regulations and defend Americans' constitutional rights.

I'll continue to stand up against anti-gun legislation and regulations because we can — and we must — keep our communities safe WITHOUT taking away the 2nd Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans.

It's a great honor to represent you in Washington and in South Mississippi.  If you need help with a federal agency during this holiday season, my team and I are ready to assist.

Sincerely,

Mike Ezell
