Dear [salutation],

This week, House Republicans did our jobs. We finally impeached Homeland Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for his refusal to enforce federal law at our southern border, and we passed legislation to help address inflation and the rising costs of energy. Here are the highlights:

Accountability, Not Complicity

As a Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, I have participated in a year-long investigation into the disaster at our southern border.

The investigation has made it undeniably clear that Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has willingly and repeatedly refused to enforce our nation's immigration laws. The consequences of this crisis rest solely on his head.

Because of his refusal to do his job, the American people are left with only one recourse. That's why the Homeland Security Committee advanced articles of impeachment a few weeks ago. I spoke on the House floor about that last week:

Democrats used every tool they could to delay accountability. They even wheeled a Congressman in from the hospital to tie the initial impeachment vote.

Thankfully, those strategies couldn't stop accountability for long. With Majority Leader Steve Scalise back this week, we officially voted to impeach.

Now the articles of impeachment head to the Senate. While I doubt Senate Democrats will allow a real trial of Secretary Mayorkas's illegal actions, I'm proud that Republicans in the House did our job and held the worst cabinet secretary in over a century accountable for his failure to uphold his oath of office.

At every step of the way, we've done what we can to secure the border. In addition to holding Mayorkas accountable, we passed the strongest border package in the history of the U.S. House of Representatives, the Secure the Border Act.

We also rejected half measures that would legalize many of Secretary Mayorkas's "catch-and-release" border policies that violate existing federal laws. While Democrats in both chambers have been complicit in this crisis, House Republicans are continuing to hold the line.

Bidenomics Still Hurts

Yesterday, we voted to pass the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act, a bill that would repeal Biden Administration restrictions on liquid natural gas.

House Republicans have passed several similar bills this Congress to reopen American energy production. These bills are necessary because Biden's war on American energy has raised costs across the board.

How bad has it gotten? Just look at how much more Valentine's Day cost this year. Americans didn't feel the love of Biden's economic agenda:

Valentine's Day Inflation Numbers

These aren't outliers either. Since Biden took office in January of 2021, consumer prices are up a stunning 17.97%.

The White House has tried to gaslight the American people into believing they're better off financially, but their lies don't speak louder than empty pockets.

According to Fox Business, “Americans are paying on average…$1,019 [monthly] more compared with three years ago.”

An extra thousand dollars a month may be pocket change for some families, but for most Americans, it's a very real challenge.

Americans can't afford another four years of Biden's progressive agenda. We'll continue to feel the pain every time we go to the gas station or the grocery store, and that won't change until we have a president and a Senate who are willing to work with House Republicans to lower costs for the American people.

Honoring a Mississippi Hero

One of the most incredible parts of my job is the opportunity to honor and celebrate impressive people across South Mississippi.

Last Saturday, I was able to recognize Mr. William Jarrell, a World War II veteran who celebrated his 100th birthday this week.

Congressman Ezell Presents Mr. Jarrell with a flag flown over the U.S. Capitol

Mr. Jarrell was born in Hattiesburg on February 13, 1924. At the age of 18, he joined the United States Navy. He trained as a flight deck firefighter and was assigned to the U.S.S. Independence.

Mr. Jarrell served aboard the aircraft carrier during several battles in the Pacific theater, including one that saw the Independence torpedoed by Japanese forces.

After serving, Mr. Jarrell became a welder at Ingalls Shipyard in Pascagoula. He married Rosie Freeman, and they had seven children.

It was a tremendous honor to present Mr. Jarrell with a flag flown over our nation's Capitol in his honor.

I hope you'll join me in wishing him a happy belated 100th birthday and thanking him for his bravery in service to our country.

Next week, I'll be back home in South Mississippi to meet with constituents across the district. If you have questions about pending legislation or need help with a federal agency, please contact my team via my website or at one of the offices below.

It's my honor to serve as your Congressman.

Sincerely,

Mike Ezell
