Representative Mike Ezell

Dear [salutation],

It's been an exciting week back in Washington serving as your Congressman. I returned after my weekend trip to El Paso, Texas to see Biden's crisis at our Southern Border.

Here's what my team and I have been working on for South Mississippi:

Tackling Biden's Border Crisis

In last week's newsletter, I shared pictures from the first day of my visit to the southern border with my colleagues from the House Committee on Homeland Security.

We witnessed border patrol agents stop an SUV filled with fentanyl and heroin. While many of my colleagues were shocked, unfortunately I was not. These sort of busts happen regularly for law enforcement officers, even thousands of miles from the border.

After returning from El Paso, my colleagues and I held a hearing on Biden's crisis at our southern border. Here, I discussed the effect of the border crisis in South Mississippi with Sheriff Mark Lamb from Pinal County, AZ:

During my time as Sheriff, I saw what the rest of Americans are realizing: every state has become a border state. Like Pinal County, all three of Mississippi's coastal counties sit on I-10, one of the nation's most active routes for drug trafficking. The drugs that make it through Biden's open border wind up in our communities here in South Mississippi and around the country.

Border patrol agents work hard, but the administration took away crucial policies that helped them do their job. Today, CBP is handling more than 8,000 encounters per day. To put that into context, President Obama's DHS Secretary said that 1,000 daily encounters was the threshold for loss of operational control.

Enough is enough. The Biden Administration must be held accountable for continuing to allow this crisis to persist. With my fellow members on the Homeland Security Committee, I'll ensure we are allowing our border patrol agents to do their jobs and enforce the laws already on the books.

I won't stop fighting because our safety and our communities depend on it.

Keeping Wokeness Out of Retirement Accounts

On Tuesday, the House voted to pass H.J. Res. 30, which I proudly cosponsored.

This legislation nullified a recent Department of Labor rule, which encouraged managers of 401(k)s and pensions to consider companies' positions on issues like climate change and social justice rather than maximizing return on investments.

H.J. Res. 30's companion bill passed the Senate as well, and now it moves on to the president. Despite the bill's common-sense language and bipartisan support, President Biden has threatened to veto it.

I hope he'll change his mind and decide to put the American people ahead of his woke agenda.

If not, I'll work to overturn his veto because we cannot allow the Biden Administration to advance a political agenda at the expense of your retirement savings.

Reining In Inflation

I was also proud to support H.R. 347, the REIN IN Act, which passed the House on Wednesday. This common sense legislation requires an estimate of the extent that executive orders would impact inflation.

Thanks to Biden's executive orders, consumer inflation has risen over fourteen percent since he took office. He chose to kill the Keystone XL pipeline, killing jobs and sending energy prices through the roof. How did Biden respond to this record inflation?

He chose to give career bureaucrats their largest raise in two decades.

House Republicans are working hard for the American people by addressing the inflation crisis and holding the Biden administration accountable. Americans deserve an economy that's strong, not one weakened by executive overreach.

I'm home this weekend and will be back in Washington next week to continue fighting the Biden administration and standing up for our common-sense conservative values. If you have questions about a bill or need help with a federal agency, please call one of my offices listed below or contact us on our website at ezell.house.gov.
