Representative Mike Ezell

Dear [salutation],

It's been another busy week in Washington fighting for our conservative South Mississippi values. Here's a quick recap of some of the most important things that happened in Congress this week:

America Stands With Israel

Last weekend, Iran launched a wave of more than 300 drones and missiles at our Israeli allies. Thankfully, Israel and others were able to shoot down the majority of these projectiles before they reached their targets.

This is just the latest instance of Iranian aggression in the Middle East, which has been spurred on by the Biden Administration's soft-on-Iran policies. How bad have those policies been?

In January of 2021, immediately after taking office, President Biden named Rob Malley as special U.S. envoy for Iran. Malley was previously the architect of the Obama Administration's Middle East policies, including the Iran nuclear deal — and he also turned out to be an Iranian spy.

That sounds like fiction, but it's the truth.

Journalists found emails showing Malley "helped to fund, support, and direct an Iranian intelligence operation designed to influence the United States and allied governments".

The investigation was handed over to the FBI and Malley was removed from his position, but not before doing unimaginable damage to our national security and to the stability of the Middle East.

Appointing Malley isn't the only failure this administration has made regarding Iran.

On September 11, 2023 — the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks — the Biden administration gave Iran $6 billion in previously frozen funds despite Iran's leaders refusing to commit to using those funds for humanitarian purposes.

In fact, according to testimony from Wally Adeyemo, the Biden-appointed Deputy Secretary of the Treasury (and former President of the Obama Foundation), the Biden Administration EXPECTS money it gives to Iran to be spent on "their violent activity"  — but that hasn't stopped them from repeatedly trying to loosen sanctions on Iran or returning money to the Iranian regime.

The last six months have proved what the vast majority of Americans already knew: coddling terrorists and their funders doesn't make them less violent or aggressive; it encourages them to strike while our guard is down.

Thankfully, House Republicans are fighting to hold Iran accountable. That's why we passed legislation this week that would crack down on China's support of Iran through its purchase of Iranian oil, strengthen sanctions on Iran and its terrorist proxies, and strip away the tax-exempt status of any organization providing support to terrorists.

These shouldn't be radical ideas, but they're a major departure from what America's policies have been since Biden took office. I'll continue to fight for legislation that supports allies like Israel and treats nations like Iran as the adversaries they've proven they are.

Senate Dems Choose Cowardice

On Tuesday, House impeachment managers delivered articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the Senate as outlined in the Constitution.

For almost a full year, the House Committee on Homeland Security conducted a thorough investigation into Secretary Mayorkas's dereliction of duty.

As part of that investigation, I heard testimony from countless witnesses — law enforcement, immigration experts, victims of the border crisis, and more.

I spoke directly with Border Patrol and ICE agents at the Southern Border who are no longer able to do their jobs because of Mayorkas's refusal to enforce our immigration laws.

But when this nearly year-long investigation culminated in articles of impeachment, Senate Democrats dismissed them without even an hour of consideration.

Article I, Section 3 of the Constitution is clear: "The Senate shall have the sole power to try ALL impeachments."

Unfortunately, Senate Democrats chose blind support of the Biden Administration's failures over their clear constitutional duties.

This was the first time in American history the Senate refused to fulfill its duty and hold an impeachment trial.

Even when the Democrat-controlled House brought its clearly partisan impeachments of President Trump, Senate Republicans heard the case because the Constitution demanded it.

But when faced with a much more serious case — a sitting cabinet official who refuses to enforce our laws and has repeatedly lied under oath — and a much more thorough investigation, Senate Democrats chose unprecedented cowardice.

I'm grateful for the Senate Republicans who joined the House in calling for a trial and attempted to delay Majority Leader Schumer's motions to give us time to present our case. We cannot and will not stop working to hold Secretary Mayorkas accountable for the national security and humanitarian crisis occurring on our Southern Border.

Just How Scary Is the Border Crisis?

Just before the articles of impeachment were delivered to the Senate, I actually had the opportunity to question Secretary Mayorkas as he pitched the Department of Homeland Security's Biden budget.

Plenty of my colleagues asked about the craziness within that budget — requesting less detention beds than in previous years, slashing ICE and Border Patrol funding to spend more money paroling migrants into the country, and other insane provisions — but I asked a much simpler question.

I asked Secretary Mayorkas about whether or not his policies had allowed members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Islamic terrorist organizations, or the People's Liberation Army of the Chinese Communist Party to enter the United States.

His (non)answer was frightening, but unfortunately not surprising.

If we had a Secretary of Homeland Security or a President who was serious about protecting the country or securing the border, we could get this fixed quickly. Instead, the Biden Administration continues to push for more illegal immigrants entering the country and less money being spent on deterrents and border security.

America is in danger, and Secretary Mayorkas's illegal parole policies are to blame.

I was supposed to fly home to South Mississippi today, but instead I have to be in Washington for votes as we work this weekend to pass critical aid for our allies in Israel and Taiwan while opposing Biden's newest Ukraine bailout.

If you need help with a federal agency or have questions about what's going on in Congress, please contact my team via my website or at one of the offices below.

As always, I'm proud to serve you and all of South Mississippi as your Congressman.

Sincerely,
