Representative Mike Ezell

Dear [salutation],

It's been great to be back in South Mississippi over this Easter recess. Here are two of my favorite stops, plus an update on the Mayorkas Impeachment:

Celebrating Investment in South Mississippi

I was proud to join state and federal officials last week in Hancock County to celebrate the opening of Skydweller Aero’s flight test and aircraft modification facility.

Skydweller Aero is an unmanned solar-powered aircraft company whose aircraft is capable of taking to the air for months at a time without needing to top or refuel.

I joined the governor and our senators in welcoming Skydweller to Stennis International Airport.

The team at Skydweller have talked often about what drew them to the Gulf Coast. We have great, hardworking people, an incredible location, and pro-business leaders at every level — federal, state, and local. That’s not common, and it stands out

I'm excited to see this partnership continue to grow as Skydweller invests in good paying jobs and in training their workforce with our community colleges and universities.

Strengthening Mississippi Infrastructure

I joined key stakeholders from the Port of Gulfport for a roundtable to talk about the port's successes and its future. The Port of Gulfport is the third largest port on the Gulf of Mexico and plays a pivotal role in Mississippi's statewide economy.

We also took a tour of the port focused not just on current tenants and projects, but on plans for long-term expansion.

Strengthening our infrastructure, especially at ports and harbors, has been one of my top priorities as your Congressman. My team and I have worked to spur on the Army Corps of Engineers' deepening of the port, and I have introduced critical legislation that will strengthen our supply chains in Mississippi and across the country.

As a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, I introduced H.R. 4993 with Congressman Troy Carter, a Democrat from New Orleans. Our bipartisan bill would support ports both in Mississippi and Louisiana and across the nation by helping modernize their cargo handling equipment, and I hope to see the committee consider it soon.

Holding Mayorkas Accountable

Next week, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson will officially deliver the articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the United States Senate.

Here's a quick refresher on the process that got us here:

Beginning in early 2023, the House Committee on Homeland Security held a series of hearings on the border crisis and Secretary Mayorkas's dereliction of duty.

As a part of those hearings, I visited the Southern Border and spoke directly with Border Patrol and ICE agents who are no longer able to do their jobs because of Mayorkas's refusal to enforce our immigration laws.

On January 30, 2024, the Homeland Security Committee voted to send articles of impeachment to the House floor. Democrats attempted to stall and distract, but we held strong.

On February 13, 2024, the House of Representatives voted to impeach Secretary Mayorkas, the first impeachment of a sitting cabinet official.

Historically, cabinet officials have chosen to resign before being impeached. Secretary Mayorkas did not. He isn't doing his job, but he refuses to step down and let some one serious take his place.

Next week, the House will be delivering the articles of impeachment to the Senate. While I expect Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer will dismiss or sidetrack the impeachment, I hope he takes this seriously instead. The American people deserve accountable government, and they deserve an impeachment trial.

For more on this process, I encourage you to read this article by my friend and our chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, Congressman Mark Green (TN-07).

The House — and especially the members of the House Committee on Homeland Security — did our job. Now its time for the Senate to do theirs.
