Representative Mike Ezell

Dear [salutation],

It's been another great week back at home. My team and I continued to travel across Mississippi to talk about our record and the needs facing our communities. Here's what's going on this week:

Our Border Disaster is a Choice

Everyone knows our southern border is a disaster. We've had millions of illegal crossings this year, and thousands of Americans are dead from drugs like fentanyl.

Unlike many crises our nation faces, solving the problems at the border is pretty simple: finish the wall and let border patrol agents enforce our laws. Unfortunately, the Biden Administration refuses to do either one.

Since Biden took office, the government has left hundreds of millions of dollars in border wall materials to rust on private property in border states. We heard from one of these landowners in a Homeland Security hearing in July.

House and Senate Republicans have been pushing to restart construction since it stopped. But now that we're gaining traction on the issue, the Biden Administration has quietly begun auctioning off these materials.

At the same time, our border patrol agents aren't being allowed to do their jobs. It was bad enough when they were being forced to serve as border administrators instead of law enforcement officers. Now, Biden Administration officials are ordering border patrol agents to make the border less secure.

That sounds crazy, right? Here's what's happened:

The Tuscon (AZ) sector of our border is now the busiest in the country, with border patrol encountering more than 40,000 migrants there in the month of July. There are sections of the Arizona border wall with massive built-in gates to manage annual floods.

These floodgates are normally left closed when there aren't floodwaters to let through. This year, however, border patrol higher-ups forced agents to weld the gates PERMANENTLY OPEN. Now, the cartel is bringing migrants by the busload and sending them straight through these wide-open gates.

I want to hear your thoughts. Please take a moment to fill out this survey below:

Should Joe Biden allow border patrol agents to do their jobs?

Yes, border patrol agents should be given the power to enforce the law and close floodgates on our southern border

No, the Biden Administration should continue to prevent border patrol from enforcing the law and closing floodgates on our southern border

Ensuring a Healthier Mississippi

Since I took office, I've worked to build strong relationships with our South Mississippi hospitals. The doctors, nurses, and other staff at these facilities play a crucial role in helping our communities to thrive, and we're blessed with some incredible institutions both in the Pine Belt and on the Gulf Coast.

This week, I took a quick trip to Jackson to learn about a few of the unique services offered by hospitals in our capital city.

The University of Mississippi Medical Center runs our state's only children's hospital. I was able to tour Children's of Mississippi and see how they serve children and families from across the state.

I also met with the team at St. Dominic Hospital. St. Dominic's Comprehensive Stroke Center is nationally recognized for provides life-saving care to stroke victims.

Having resources like these in Mississippi helps our entire state.

I'm committed to supporting affordable, quality, innovative healthcare both in South Mississippi and across the state, and I'm thankful for the healthcare professionals who work to take care of our communities.

Honoring a South Mississippi Hero

On Monday, I had the honor of presenting a flag flown over our nation's Capitol to the friends and family of Mrs. Paulette "Ms. Polly" Coker, who passed away last month at the age of 80.

In 1979, Ms. Polly and her husband, Mr. Buddy, opened their Laurel home to those struggling with addiction and started a ministry called Love in Action. Through the years, they helped hundreds of men turn their lives around by sharing the love of Christ.

Even in her last days, Ms. Polly continued to live out her faith, preparing meals to feed the homeless and poor in parks and shelters across Laurel. Her life was an inspiration to me and to so many others in Laurel, Jones County, and across the state.

Our state is home to many incredible men and women like the Cokers, and one of the biggest privileges of serving as your Congressman is showing them the appreciation and honor they deserve. If you know a South Mississippian who deserves to be recognized for service to their community, you can reach out to my office here.

If you need help with a federal agency or have questions about what's going on in Washington, please contact one of my offices below or visit my website, ezell.house.gov. For more regular updates, you can follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

It's an honor to continue serving all of South Mississippi.

Sincerely,

Mike Ezell
