The rule, which is being proposed by Xavier Becerra, President Biden's Health and Human Services Secretary, would prevent states from using funds from Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) to support pregnancy centers.
Pregnancy resource centers—often called crisis pregnancy centers—are charities that provide critical services to mothers with unexpected pregnancies. Many of them offer young mothers counseling, free maternal healthcare, and resources like formula, diapers, and baby clothes.
Unfortunately, these centers and the volunteers that run them have been under attack by the radical left since the Dobbs decision. California's radical Attorney General is suing pregnancy centers for helping mothers save the lives of their babies, and Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and other Democrats have called for a "crackdown" against centers across the country.
As bad as the rhetoric is, the documented increase in violence and vandalism has been worse. Within a year of the leaked Dobbs decision, pro-abortion radicals engaged in more than 85 attacks on pregnancy resource centers and more than 150 attacks on Catholic churches.
These attacks are federal crimes under the FACE Act—but the Biden Department of Justice didn't prosecute a single one in 2022. Instead, they prosecuted 26 different cases against pro-life individuals, including some who were totally exonerated.
We shouldn't let the left's war on pregnancy resource centers distract us from the massive victories the pro-life cause has won over the last few years. Since the Dobbs decision, more than 32,000 unborn lives have been saved. That's more people than the populations of Laurel, Diamondhead, and Leakesville COMBINED—and that's in just 18 months.
Mississippi played an outsized role in ending Roe v. Wade, and I'm continuing to work with other pro-life leaders at every level to protect mothers, babies, and pro-life charities like pregnancy resource centers in our great state and across the country.
It's my honor to serve you and all of South Mississippi in Congress. For more updates on how I'm fighting for you, please sign up for my newsletter.
