Representative Mike Ezell

Dear [salutation],

It's been another great week in South Mississippi celebrating the freedoms that make our nation great. It's been six months since I took office as your Congressman, and my team and I are not slowing down. Here's a look at what we've accomplished so far and some of the things I'm continuing to work on:

Waiting on Chuck Schumer

Since the House Republican majority took over in January, we've passed major pieces of pro-America legislation, including bills that would:

  • Prohibit the President from selling oil from our strategic reserves to China
    • H.R. 22 — Passed the House on January 12
  • Protect parents' rights in their children's education
    • H.R. 5 — Passed the House on March 24
  • Unleash American energy production and lower prices across the board
    • H.R. 1 — Passed the House on March 30
  • Ensure only women compete in women's sports
    • H.R. 734 — Passed the House on April 25
  • Secure our southern border
    • H.R. 2 — Passed the House on May 11

Each of these bills (and more) has been sent to Chuck Schumer's Senate. What's he done with them?

Virtually nothing. Instead, he's focusing on trivial matters like "Maine Maple Syrup Monday" and "Kids to Parks Day".

I don't have a problem with maple syrup or kids playing outside, but there are way more important things for our Senate to be focused on—issues like our wide-open southern border, crippling inflation, and the looming threat of China.

I know my Republican colleagues in the Senate (and even some Democrats) are ready to take action on these issues, but Majority Leader Schumer refuses to bring up our bills for a vote.

House Republicans have done our job. Now it's time for Senator Schumer to do his.

Supporting Mississippi Agriculture

Earlier this week, my wife, Suzette, and I toured Eubanks Produce in Lucedale. They supply fresh local produce to wholesalers and retailers across the southeast.

Farmers like the Eubanks family help put food on our tables and keep our Mississippi economy thriving.

As a beekeeper and the owner of a small herd of cattle, I know the challenges facing agriculture in Mississippi and across the country. That's why I'm joining my friend from North Mississippi, Congressman Trent Kelly (MS-01), on several agriculture bills.

Our bills will help support existing farmers, ranchers, and loggers and will expand the agriculture workforce in our state by increasing training and education options for future generations.

Celebrating What Makes Our Nation Great

Like most of South Mississippi, I celebrated Independence Day with family members and friends.

I'm proud to be an American, and I consider it an honor to serve you in our nation's Capitol as we try to live up to the vision our founding fathers had for this great nation.

Unfortunately, not everyone recognizes the blessing it is to live in America. One WNBA player even took the lead-up to the Fourth of July as an opportunity to call America 'trash'.

That kind of attitude is deeply disheartening. While America isn't perfect, we enjoy freedoms that many around the world don't have. My friend, former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom, made this point particularly well.

Enes was born in Turkey, and moved to the United States in high school to play basketball. He's seen his family imprisoned and even had a bounty put on his head because he dared to speak out against human rights abuses by the Turkish and Chinese governments.

In 2021, he became an American citizen and changed his last name to "Freedom" in celebration of the values that make our nation a shining city on a hill. Enes is a great American, and his patriotism is an inspiration to me and so many others.

Next week, I'll be returning to Washington to continue addressing the problems facing our nation. The House Republican Majority will not stop working for the American people, even if Chuck Schumer continues to ignore his responsibilities.
