When the Bonnet Carré Spillway was opened in 2019, many members of the Mississippi Gulf Coast community, especially business owners, lost everything.
During a subcommittee hearing earlier this year, I questioned Mr. Michael Connor, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, about the Army Corps of Engineers' management of the Spillway. Mr. Connor committed to including Mississippi Gulf Coast community leaders and business owners in the Corps' recently announced Lower Mississippi River Comprehensive Management Study.
This week Senator Wicker and I led a letter to the Corps to remind them of Mr. Connor's promise and ensure Mississippians have a voice on the future of the spillway. You can read the full letter here:
