Representative Mike Ezell

Dear [firstname],

Since House Republicans passed our first legislation on Monday (defunding President Biden's army of IRS agents), we haven't slowed down.

Here are some of the highlights from this week:

Fighting for Babies and the Unborn

On Wednesday, the House voted to pass H.R. 26, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which I was proud to co-sponsor. This legislation requires babies born alive during a failed abortion to be provided with adequate medical treatment, including transportation to a local hospital.

We also passed a resolution condemning the recent uptick in violence against pro-life pregnancy centers and churches.

I believe it is one of my most important duties as your congressman to protect the sanctity of life, and I'm proud to have supported both of these bills to begin this Congress.

My team is hosting a Pro-Life Legislative Update and Reception next Friday. If you'll be in DC, please stop by the office. See below for more information.

Standing Up to China

The House also passed two major pieces of legislation opposing the Chinese Communist Party.

H.R. 22, the Protecting America’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve from China Act will stop the Biden Administration from selling crude oil out of our Strategic Petroleum Reserve to the Chinese Communist Party.

Speaker McCarthy's H.Res. 11 creates a bipartisan committee to investigate the ways China is trying to undermine the United States, including their role in the fentanyl crisis and their attempts to buy up American farmland.

While both of these were led by House Republicans, I'm glad that a majority of House Democrats joined us on these votes. We can't allow partisanship to get in the way of holding China accountable.

Holding Biden Accountable

I joined Rep. Mark Alford and other House Republicans in a letter demanding an investigation into President Biden's mishandling of classified documents.

Many of the documents were uncovered on November 2nd, days before the midterm elections, yet the American people didn't find out until more than two months later.

Our letter asked Attorney General Merrick Garland to appoint a special counsel and answer four simple questions:

  1. Did the White House request to withhold this information prior to the midterm elections?
  2. Why did the Biden administration and AG Garland's Department of Justice fail to disclose this information publicly?
  3. Why was a special counsel not appointed and would AG Garland appoint a special counsel to investigate President Biden?
  4. Was Congress ever notified?

AG Garland has agreed to appoint a special counsel in the case. I'm glad to see this first step, but there's still more work to be done.

The American people deserve answers to these questions, and House Republicans will fight to ensure they hear the truth.

I'm excited to be back home next week, and I'll be spending the week on a district tour to hear from you about how I can better serve you in Washington.

My team and I are working hard to cut through the red tape and get our district offices up and running. We hope to send out addresses and ribbon-cutting dates soon. If you need help in the meantime, you can call our DC office at (202) 225-5772.
