Representative Mike Ezell

Dear [salutation],

After some time back home in South Mississippi, I returned to Washington to continue fighting for our conservative values. Here are a few of the biggest moments from the past week:

Addressing Biden's Border Crisis

Yesterday, I joined 218 other House Republicans in passing H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, a sweeping border security and immigration package that would address the ongoing crisis on our southern border.

The bill passed the House hours before Title 42 expired last night. We're already seeing the effects of that expiration—and experts believe the surges are likely to get worse.

In spite of this, the president and his party are sitting on their hands. Fortunately, House Republicans are willing to act to end this humanitarian nightmare.

What does the Secure the Border Act do? Here are a few highlights:

HR 2

A few weeks ago, I joined Paul Gallo to talk about my role in cosponsoring and fighting for the Committee on Homeland Security's H.R. 2794—a bill so strong that Democrats tried to block it by holding votes until 3 a.m.

The Secure the Border Act took many of its border security provisions (such as restarting the border wall, increasing funding for Border Patrol agents, and expanding grants for local law enforcement) from H.R. 2794.

If you missed the Gallo interview, you can catch it here:

When I visited the southern border earlier this year, I saw Border Patrol agents and other law enforcement officers trying to do the best they could—without any support from President Biden or Secretary Mayorkas.

That's totally unacceptable.

I'm proud to have helped craft and pass legislation that gets them the support they need and deserve.

Standing With Law Enforcement

Before National Police Week, which starts Sunday, I joined Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Chairwoman Elise Stefanik, and other House Republicans (many of them former law enforcement officers) to speak at the National Police Memorial.

You can watch my remarks here:

After 42 years in law enforcement, I thought I'd seen it all—then I watched as officers were attacked by left-wing policies across the country.

I'll never allow politicians to demonize and defund our law enforcement agencies, and I'll always fight for those who answer the call to serve and protect our communities.

Combatting Unemployment Fraud

In addition to H.R. 2, I also voted to pass H.R. 1163, the Protecting Taxpayers and Victims of Unemployment Fraud Act.

According to the Department of Labor Inspector General, pandemic fraud from unemployment insurance cost taxpayers at least $191 billion. Outside experts estimate even more—as much as $400 billion.

Democrats refused to reform these programs and pursue fraudsters, but House Republicans are on the job. Our legislation incentivizes states to investigate and recover these funds and hold fraudsters accountable.

I'll be in Washington again next week. We will be honoring fallen officers during National Police Week. and your House Republican Majority will continue to fight for the American people. If you haven't already, please follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

As always, if my office can help you, please don't hesitate to call the numbers below or contact us on our website at ezell.house.gov.

It is an honor and a privilege to represent you in Congress.

Sincerely,

Mike Ezell
