Representative Mike Ezell

Dear [salutation],

I hope you and your family have had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Suzette and I were blessed to spend the holiday with our family, including my daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter.

I wanted to highlight a couple of things I've been working on this week in a quick newsletter:

Did Bidenomics Impact Your Thanksgiving Plans?

Many Americans are struggling to put food on the table, and this administration's disastrous spending policies seem to be making it worse. According to the American Farm Bureau Federation, a Thanksgiving meal this year costs 25% more than the same meal four years ago.

Did you experience that this Thanksgiving? I sent out the survey below earlier this week. So far, nearly 3/4 of South Mississippians have reported seeing the effects of Bidenomics on their Thanksgiving plans.

If you haven't filled it out already, I want to know your thoughts:

    Has Bidenomics impacted your Thanksgiving?

    Yes

    No

    Not Sure

What's cost American families more this Thanksgiving? Some of the most staggering price increases (courtesy of the Consumer Price Index) include:

    • Uncooked turkey: ⬆ 7.2% from 2022
    • Gravy: ⬆ 7.5% from 2022
    • Rolls: ⬆ 5.7% from 2022
    • Sugar: ⬆ 8.8% from 2022
    • Frozen vegetables: ⬆ 10.7% from 2022

As your Congressman, I'm doing everything in my power to cut wasteful spending and lower the prices our families pay for essentials like gas and groceries. That's why I helped pass the Lower Energy Costs Act (HR 1), which would support domestic energy production and lower the price of gas and other goods for families across the United States.

That bill (and plenty of other good bills) passed the House of Representatives months ago, but Chuck Schumer's Senate refuses to consider any of them. While Americans are struggling, many on the far-left refuse to do their jobs and pass legislation to address our inflation crisis.

It's infuriating, but we won't give up the fight. House Republicans are continuing to pass legislation that would cut wasteful spending, strengthen our economy, and put a stop to destructive Biden Administration policies.

ICYMI: How the Border Crisis Affects Our Nation’s Law Enforcement and First Responders

On Tuesday, I had a column published in Townhall explaining the toll the Biden-Mayorkas border disaster takes on our law enforcement and first responders. The key takeaway is pretty simple:

"As long as illegal immigration is encouraged by this administration, the men and women on our communities’ front lines will be forced to bear the cost."

In communities across the country, first responders are forced to choose between serving their communities and addressing the consequences of our open border. There are a ton of shocking facts in the column, which you can read here, including:

    • New York City is about to cut overtime pay for police and firefighters to pay for migrant housing
    • County jails spending millions in taxpayer dollars to detain illegal immigrant criminals
    • Nearly 50 criminal illegal aliens being arrested by CBP alone each day, with many more making it into local communities

As a member of the House Committee on Homeland Security, I'm working to support the law enforcement agents tackling this crisis, including both Border Patrol and local agencies. Until this administration changes its tune and prioritizes border security, our nation's law enforcement and first responders will continue to be stretched thin.

It's an honor to serve South Mississippi as your United States Congressman.
